Exam Details

The IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Driver exam assesses candidates on their ability to safely operate an IRB in rescue situations.

Minimum Age: 18 years
Duration: 35 hours (05 Days)
Certification offered by: Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS)

 

Exam Structure

  1. Written Assessment:
    • Format: Multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
    • Topics Covered:
      • IRB operations and handling techniques
      • Safety protocols and regulations
      • Navigation and environmental considerations
      • Emergency response procedures
  2. Practical Skills Assessment:
    • Demonstration of Skills: Candidates must demonstrate various practical skills, including:
      • Safe launching and recovering of the IRB
      • Operating the IRB under various conditions (calm and rough waters)
      • Maneuvering techniques (turning, stopping, etc.)
      • Execution of rescue scenarios, including towing and patient recovery
      • Communication and teamwork during operations

Preparation

  • Attend Training Course: Completion of an IRB driver training course is required prior to the exam.
  • Study Materials: Review the manuals and guidelines provided during the training.
  • Practice Skills: Engage in hands-on training sessions to gain confidence in operating the IRB.

Certification

  • Passing Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete both the written and practical assessments to receive certification as an IRB Driver.
  • Validity: Certification is typically valid for a specific period (usually three years), after which recertification may be necessary.
